We will compost year round, as we did growing up. If the pile becomes frozen and unable to turn, I would recommend covering the compost heap with newspaper (it is compostable) through the winter months. Once it begins to thaw, keep it turned and everything should balance out again. The barrel would be a great alternative. Let me know if you use the barrel and how it turns out!

Can you give some tips on composting during the upcoming Indiana winter months? We have also started composting this year and I'm wondering if barreling my heap would work or leaving it in the open is better. Any thoughts?
